The meridian 124° east of Greenwich is a line that helps us find places on Earth. This line of longitude starts at the North Pole and runs down to the South Pole. It passes through many places, such as the Arctic Ocean, Asia, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, Australia, and the Southern Ocean, before ending in Antarctica.
This line is important for maps and travel. It is half of a pair of lines that make a great circle when joined with the 56th meridian west. Great circles are the shortest way between two points on a round object, so they help us understand distances and directions on Earth.
