The meridian 86° west of Greenwich is a line of longitude. It runs from the North Pole through many places. These include the Arctic Ocean, North America, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, Central America, the Pacific Ocean, the Southern Ocean, and Antarctica. It ends at the South Pole.

This line helps us learn about the Earth’s shape and locations. It links two very different points on our planet, going all the way around. The 86th meridian west also makes a great circle with the 94th meridian east. This shows us how Earth’s geography fits together.

From Pole to Pole

Starting at the North Pole and heading south to the South Pole, the 86th meridian west passes through many places.
