The day is named after Ada Lovelace, a brilliant mathematician and one of the first computer science pioneers. She lived a long time ago, but her smart ideas about computers still inspire people today.

Ada Lovelace Day started in 2009 as a day for people to write blog posts about women in these important fields. Over time, it has become a big event celebrated in many countries, with conferences and gatherings to share ideas and celebrate women’s achievements in STEM.
