Alexandria Stadium (Arabic: إستاد الأسكندرية) is a multi-purpose stadium in the Moharram Bey district of Alexandria, Egypt. It opened in 1929 by King Fouad I. It is the oldest stadium in both Egypt and Africa.
After being remodeled between 2016 and 2017, the stadium can hold up to 13,660 people. It is where the Al-Ittihad football team plays its home games. Over the years, it has hosted many important events, such as the first 1951 Mediterranean Games. It was also used for the 1986 African Cup of Nations, the 2006 African Cup of Nations, and some matches in the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
Architecture
The stadium was designed by a Russian architect named Vladimir Nicohosov. He used ideas from Islamic architecture.
