Arizona Western College (AWC) is a public community college in Yuma, Arizona. It offers many educational programs. These include associate degrees, occupational certificates, and transfer degrees. Transfer degrees help students move on to four-year universities. The college also has classes in nearby communities such as Dateland, Parker, San Luis, Somerton, and Wellton. This makes education accessible to more people in the area.
Academics
Arizona Western College offers more than 100 degrees and certificates. You can study them in person or online. Some of the associate degrees include Arts, Science, Business, and Applied Science.
On-campus housing
Arizona Western College is one of the few community colleges in the United States that lets students live on the school grounds. The main campus has three buildings for students to stay in, and these can hold up to 348 students.
Student life
Arizona Western College has more than 50 clubs and groups for students. These clubs are about different things like math, music, sports, cooking, and chess. Students can join these groups to meet new friends and learn new skills.
Athletics
Arizona Western College's sports teams are called the Matadors. They play in two big groups: the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC).
The Matadors have eight teams: four for men and four for women. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. Women’s sports are basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Some of these teams have helped players become professional athletes. In 2014, the football team won a big game and had a very successful season.
Notable alumni
Arizona Western College has helped many students become successful athletes. Well-known graduates include Rafael Araujo and Nate Archibald, who played professional basketball. Other graduates have played American football and baseball, such as Randy Gregory, Crawford Ker, Bengie Molina, Sergio Romo, Leonard Thompson, Jesse Williams, Cameron Young, and Damien Williams. The college also has college basketball players like Yaxel Lendeborg who have gone on to play at higher levels.
