Boninite

Boninite is a special kind of rock from deep inside the Earth. It is found where Earth’s plates push together, called a subduction zone, often near the Izu-Bonin arc close to Japan. This rock has lots of magnesium and silica, which are important minerals.

Boninite forms when the Earth’s mantle melts in a special way. It is different from other rocks because it has very little of some rare elements but more of others that move easily. Scientists think this rock helps us learn about how the Earth looked a very long time ago.

Similar rocks from even earlier times, called sanukitoids, have been found in very old parts of the Earth’s crust. These rocks give clues about how our planet formed and changed over millions of years.

Boninite is a special kind of rock. It is made up of small crystals of pyroxenes and olivine in a glassy material. These parts fit together to form the rock.

Geochemistry

Boninite is a special kind of rock. It has a lot of magnesium, more than 8%. It also has very little titanium. This rock is usually found in places where tectonic plates are moving under each other. These places are called fore-arc environments.
