Bückeberg Formation

The Bückeberg Formation is a special rock layer found in Germany. It has many fossils from a very old time called the Berriasian during the Cretaceous period. These fossils help scientists learn about plants and animals from millions of years ago.

Because it has so many fossils, the Bückeberg Formation was once called the "German Wealden." This is like a famous rock layer in the United Kingdom called the Wealden Group. Today, scientists think of it as a bigger group that includes the Isterberg and Deister Formations.

Some interesting fossils found here include an ancient sea reptile called Brancasaurus, a piece of an armored dinosaur linked to Hylaeosaurus, and a turtle named Dorsetochelys. These fossils tell us about life from long ago.
