Cody Vasut

Cody Thane Vasut (born August 13, 1987) is an American politician. He has represented the 25th District in the Texas House of Representatives since 2021. He is a member of the Republican Party. Vasut also works as an attorney.

In the Texas House, Vasut helps make important decisions for the people in his district. As an attorney and a politician, he works to support laws and policies that will help his community.

Early life, education, and career

Cody Vasut was born in Houston to John and Pella Vasut. He grew up in Brazoria County, Texas and finished school at Angleton High School. He went to Texas A&M University, where he got a BBA and a MS in Management. He was the 37th speaker of the Texas A&M student senate. In 2012, he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center.

Career

Cody Vasut worked as an associate attorney for BakerHostetler in Houston from 2012 to 2022. He was a councilmember for Angleton from May 2016 to May 2020. During this time, he helped lower property taxes.

Vasut ran for the Texas House of Representatives District 25 seat in 2020. He won the election in November 2020. He is known as one of the most conservative members of the Texas House and belongs to the Texas Freedom Caucus. In 2022, he proposed a bill to help parents pay for private school tuition. In 2023, he helped give funds to support certain centers and took part in a special role in a major state trial. In August 2025, he became chairman of a committee handling redistricting for Texas.
