The City of Federal Heights is a home rule city in western Adams County, Colorado, United States.
Federal Heights is part of the larger Denver-Aurora-Centennial, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and sits within the Front Range Urban Corridor. This means it is close to many other cities and towns, making it a convenient place to live.
The city is led by a mayor, and the current mayor is Linda S. Montoya. She was elected for a second four-year term in 2023.
History
The Town of Federal Heights became an official city on May 19, 1940. It was named for its place along Federal Boulevard.
Geography
Federal Heights is a town in western Adams County, Colorado. It is located at coordinates 39°51′05″N 104°59′55″W / 39.8514°N 104.9986°W / 39.8514; -104.9986 (Federal Heights, Colorado). The town sits 5,302 feet above sea level.
According to the 2020 United States census, Federal Heights covers a total area of 1,138 acres, which is about 4.604 km2. A very small part of this area, 1.2 acres or 0.005 km2, is water.
Demographics
2020 census
As of the 2020 census, Federal Heights had 14,382 people. The median age was 32.3 years. About 27.3% were children under 18, and 10.7% were adults 65 or older. For every 100 females, there were 103.2 males.
All people lived in urban areas. There were 5,254 households, and 37.5% had children under 18. Most households were led by married couples or by a male or female householder without a spouse. About 26.8% of households had only one person, and 10.0% had someone 65 or older living alone.
There were 5,574 housing units, with only a few being vacant. Few homes were for sale or rent.
2000 census
At the 2000 census, Federal Heights had 12,065 people. The population density was 6,721 people per square mile. The racial makeup included White, African American, Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander residents, with some from other races and multiple races. About 22.62% identified as Hispanic or Latino.
Of the 5,125 households, 28.7% had children under 18. About 39.7% were married couples living together, while 13.8% had a female householder without a husband. Many households had only one person, especially older adults. The average household size was 2.35, and the average family size was 2.97.
The median household income was $33,750, and the median family income was $38,468. Males earned more on average than females. About 9.2% of families and 11.2% of the population lived below the poverty line, with more children under 18 affected.

Attractions
Federal Heights has a big family water park called Water World. It is a fun place for families to enjoy and cool off.
