Fomboni
Fomboni is a city in the Comoros. About 19,000 people live there. It is the fifth-largest city in the country and the capital of the Autonomous Island of Mohéli.
Fomboni is a quiet place. It has an old market and a jetty.
The city is important because a big agreement in 2001, called the "Fomboni Accords," was named after it. Fomboni is home to more than one third of the island's people, so it plays a big role in Mohéli.
Infrastructure
Most buildings in Fomboni are small and have only one floor. About two kilometers to the east is the only airport on Mohéli Island, Mohéli Bandar Es Eslam Airport, which is in a nearby village called Djoezi. Along the main road, you can find a post office, banks, a hospital, and a market.
Culture
Fomboni has a football club called Fomboni FC. There is a school in the city run by the Alliance française.
Climate
Fomboni has a tropical marine climate, so it is usually warm and wet. The rainier time of year is from November to April, but temperatures stay fairly steady between about 19 °C and 32 °C. Fomboni can sometimes get strong storms from the Mozambique Channel. The city receives about 2000 mm of rain each year.
Notable people
Fomboni has been home to some important people. Salima Machamba was the last ruler of Moheli before French rule. Other important people from Fomboni include Djoumbe Fatima, another ruler, and Abderremane, a ruler of Mohéli. The city has also produced footballers such as Malaga Soulaimana, Salimo Velonjara, and Faouz Faidine Attoumane.
Transport
Fomboni has an airport named Mohéli Bandar Es Eslam Airport. The airport is about 3 km away in the town of Djoezi.
