Fordland, Missouri

Fordland is a small city in southern Webster County in Missouri, in the United States. The 2020 census says the city has 778 people. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes many nearby towns and cities. Fordland has its own special charm and history, adding to the culture of Missouri.

History

Fordland was created in 1882. That same year, its post office opened. The town was named after J. S. Ford. He worked for the Kansas City, Fort Scott and Memphis Railroad.

Geography

Fordland is located on the southeastern edge of the Springfield Plateau in the Ozarks of south central Missouri. You can find the village along U.S. Route 60, between Diggins, which is four miles to the east, and Rogersville, located 6.5 miles to the southwest.

The United States Census Bureau says that Fordland covers a total area of 1.11 square miles (2.87 km²), and it is all land. Because Fordland sits higher up than Springfield, it is home to a tower farm for the area's television and FM radio stations.

In 2010, 800 people lived in the city. They lived in 312 households and 205 families. Most people, about 96%, were White. A few were African American, Native American, Asian, or from other races. Some families were Hispanic or Latino.

Most households had children under 18, and many were married couples living together. The average family had about three members.

In 2000, about 684 people lived in the city. They lived in 287 households and 196 families. Nearly all were White, with a few Native American and Asian people. A small number were Hispanic or Latino.

Education

The Fordland R-III School District has one elementary school, one middle school, and Fordland High School. These schools teach children in the area.
