Geodis Park
Originally called Nashville SC Stadium and later Nashville Fairgrounds Stadium, Geodis Park is a special place for soccer fans. It is located at the historic Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee. The stadium can hold 30,109 people and is used only for soccer games. It is where the Nashville SC team, part of Major League Soccer, plays its home matches.
The stadium opened on May 1, 2022, with an exciting first game between Nashville SC and the Philadelphia Union. This event marked the start of many more soccer matches to come. Geodis Park was also chosen to host the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, showing how important it is for soccer around the world.
Construction
In December 2016, plans began for a new soccer stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. The stadium would cost $275 million, and businessman John Ingram helped pay part of this cost.
In 2020, the plan changed. The team would pay for all the construction costs. This included lease payments, cash investments, and money from event tickets. The team also agreed to pay for improvements around the stadium.
Demolition started in March 2020. The stadium was finished and renamed Geodis Park in May 2022. The stadium is home to Nashville SC and was one of the venues for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Lawsuits
In November 2017, a group called Save Our Fairgrounds sued Metro Nashville. They said building the stadium might harm the Tennessee State Fair, the Nashville Flea Market, and Fairgrounds Speedway racing. A judge dismissed this lawsuit, but an appeals court looked at it again in July 2019.
In January 2019, the Tennessee State Fair Association, led by U.S. Representative John Rose, also sued Nashville’s government. They said the stadium did not leave enough space for the state fair. This lawsuit was dismissed by the same judge. The group wanted to take the case to the Tennessee Supreme Court, but in February 2019, they decided to talk to the city council instead.
Design
The stadium was designed by Populous, a firm from Kansas City. It can hold 30,000 fans, the most for a soccer-specific stadium in the United States or Canada. The stadium has six lounges, many box suites, and a special gate for the supporters group on the north side.
Transportation
Geodis Park has 11 parking lots for Nashville SC games, and you need a pass to park there. Some lots are paved, and others have gravel or grass. There is also a place to pick up or drop off ride-hailing cars. The WeGo Public Transit system has two bus stops nearby but does not stay open late for matches.
