Gombak River

The Gombak River (Malay: Sungai Gombak) is a river that flows through Selangor and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It is a smaller river that joins a bigger river called the Klang River.

The place where the Gombak River meets the Klang River is important. It is where the city of Kuala Lumpur got its name. Long ago, this river was called Sungai Lumpur, and the city’s name comes from that old name.

History

Malay communities have lived near the Gombak River since the 1850s, where it meets the Klang River. The riverbanks were important for growing food and gathering resources. The rivers also helped villagers travel and talk to each other.
