Hardap Region
Hardap is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital city is Mariental.
The region has several towns and villages. These include Rehoboth, Aranos, Gibeon, Gochas, Kalkrand, Stampriet, and Maltahöhe.
One famous feature of Hardap is the Hardap Dam. This big dam gives water to people and farms. It is very important for life and work in the area. The Hardap Region is a place where many people live, work, and grow food. This helps support Namibia.
Geography
Hardap stretches all the way across Namibia, from the Atlantic Ocean on the west to the country's eastern border. It touches Botswana in the northeast and South Africa in the southeast. Inside Namibia, Hardap borders several other regions: Erongo to the northwest, Khomas to the north central, Omaheke to the northeast, and ǁKaras to the south.
Politics
Hardap had many voters as of 2020. The region includes eight areas for voting: Gibeon, Mariental Rural, Mariental Urban, Rehoboth Rural, Rehoboth Urban East, Rehoboth Urban West, Aranos, and Daweb.
SWAPO has been the main political party in Hardap since Namibia became free. In an election, Hifikepunye Pohamba from SWAPO got most of the votes in Hardap. In other votes, SWAPO won all areas in 2004, and later other parties also got some support.
Economy and infrastructure
Hardap has many schools where students learn. The region has good roads and other important places.
Demographics
The Hardap Region has 106,680 people, and there are more males than females. Most people live in towns, and the region is large, so it is mostly empty. Many families speak Afrikaans or Nama and Damara at home.
Most children go to school, and many adults can read and write. Many people have jobs that pay wages, while some work on farms or run their own businesses. Most homes have clean water and electricity, but some still use wood or charcoal for cooking.
