Idiosepius thailandicus

Idiosepius thailandicus, also called the thai pygmy squid, is a type of bobtail squid. It lives in the Indo-Pacific waters near Thailand. These squids are very small. Females grow to about 10 mm, and males are even smaller, not larger than 7 mm.

Scientists found this squid first in the Gulf of Thailand. It lives close to shore in places like seaweed areas and mangrove areas. In these places, the squids stick their eggs to things like mangrove roots or the underside of seagrass leaves. They use a special glue gland on their bodies to do this.

We do not know everything about where Idiosepius thailandicus lives, but it might be found as far south as Indonesia and as far north as Japan. Some people worry about the squid because its home, the seagrass beds, can be damaged by people. The IUCN says this squid is Data Deficient because we do not know enough about how many there are or if their numbers are changing.
