Interventions

Interventions is a book by Noam Chomsky, an American academic linguist and political activist. It was published in May 2007. The book has 44 op-ed articles he wrote after the events of September 11, 2001, from September 2002 through March 2007.

The book talks about many important issues. These include the Iraq War, social security, intelligent design, events in South America and Asia, and the situation involving the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the election of Hamas. It also covers topics like Hurricane Katrina and the idea of a "just war".

Interestingly, The Pentagon decided not to allow the book at its Guantanamo Bay prison. They said it might cause problems with order and discipline. Chomsky commented that such things can happen in certain kinds of governments.

Background

Noam Chomsky was asked to write an opinion article for the New York Times Syndicate. This was to mark the first anniversary of the September 11 attacks. This led to a series of monthly articles. These articles were about 1,000 words long each. They were shared internationally but seldom published in the United States, even by The New York Times. Later, a collection of his articles from 2007 to 2011 was published in a book called Making the Future in 2012.
