Ionian Revolt
The Ionian Revolt was a big fight between some Greek areas and the Persian Empire. It started in 499 BC when the Greek cities in Asia Minor were unhappy with their rulers.
One ruler, Aristagoras from Miletus, tried to attack an island but failed. He then led the Greek cities to rebel against Persia.
The rebels got help from Athens and Eretria. They attacked and burned a Persian town called Sardis. But the Persians fought back and won several battles. In 494 BC, the Persians won an important sea battle and captured Miletus. The rebellion ended, and the Persians took control again.
This revolt was important because it was the first big war between the Greeks and the Persians. It made the Persian king very angry at Athens and Eretria. This led to more wars later on.
