Karki interim cabinet
An interim government was formed in Nepal on 12 September 2025. This happened after big protests led by young people called Generation Z. These protests were against corruption and caused the government of the prime minister, K. P. Sharma Oli, to fall.
Because the second federal parliament was dissolved on the same day, 12 September 2025, a new cabinet was needed. This cabinet was led by interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki. She and her government stayed in power only for a short time. They worked until a new government was formed after the 2026 general election. The new government began on 27th March 2026, led by Balendra Shah.
This interim cabinet was important because it helped Nepal move forward during a time of big changes and protests. It showed how the country could change its leaders when many people wanted new and honest leaders.
Appointment
Sushila Karki was chosen to be the interim Prime Minister. This happened after talks between different government groups and people from the Gen Z protests. The decision was supported by an online vote on Discord. Karki was the first woman to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal. She became the country's first female head of government. Her appointment was agreed upon with the Nepali Army.
