Liz Lands was an American soul singer. She was born on February 11, 1939, and passed away on January 11, 2013.

Liz Lands had an incredible voice. It was said to span five octaves—a very wide vocal range. This made her voice special and very different from others.

She started her career with the famous Motown record company. Her powerful voice caught the attention of Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown. Gordy signed her to his own label, Gordy Records, hoping she would become a big star in R&B and pop music.

Even though Liz Lands did not become a very famous name, her music left a lasting impression. Her talent and unique voice are still remembered by music fans and historians today.

Life and career

Elizabeth Lands was born on February 11, 1939, in the Georgia Sea Islands. She grew up in New York City and later moved to Detroit. There, she joined the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

While performing with Harry Belafonte at a benefit show, she was found by Berry Gordy, who signed her to his music labels. She released her first single in 1963.

In 1963, Lands made a song to honor President John F. Kennedy after he died. She also sang at the funeral of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. After leaving Motown, she made music with her own label and came back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Lands died in January 2013.

Liz Lands made many songs and albums. Some of her well-known music includes "Untamed!" from 1959. She also released songs like "May What He Lived For Live" / "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" in 1963. Other tracks are "Midnight Johnny" / "Keep Me" from 1964 and "Starting All Over Again" from 1990.
