Mayor of Islamabad

The Mayor of Islamabad (Urdu: ناظم اسلام آباد) is the leader of Islamabad. They help manage the city and its services.

As the head of the city’s administration, the mayor looks after important things like public services, city planning, and community projects. The mayor works with local teams to make rules that help keep Islamabad safe and pleasant for everyone.

This job is very important for the daily life in the capital area. The mayor helps keep things running smoothly, improves roads and buildings, and supports the city’s growth. Their work affects schools, parks, transport, and many other parts of the city that people use every day.

Local government system

The mayor of Islamabad was created by a law passed in 2015 by the National Assembly and Senate. Islamabad has 50 Union Councils.

Besides the mayor, three Deputy mayors are also elected.

The mayor leads the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI). The MCI has many elected officials and workers. It helps plan the city, fix roads, keep things clean, and provide water and cleaning services. The mayor also leads the Capital Development Authority (CDA), which helps manage land and big projects.

Sheikh Anser Aziz was the first mayor of Islamabad. He took his oath on 4 March 2016. The mayor's office is in G-6, Islamabad.
