A fossil trilobite from the Ordovician period found in Brown County, Ohio.

Megalaspides is an extinct genus of fossil marine arthropods called trilobites. These ancient creatures lived during the later part of the Arenig stage of the Ordovician Period, a time long ago.

Scientists think Megalaspides lived about 478 to 471 million years ago. Like other trilobites, it was a sea creature with a hard shell. It lived in the oceans of a very different Earth. Studying fossils like Megalaspides helps us learn about life from long ago and how animals have changed over time.
