Milan Fashion Week is a large clothing event that happens twice a year in Milan, Italy. During this event, designers show their newest clothes for the next seasons.

In February and March, they present styles for autumn and winter. In September and October, they show designs for spring and summer.

This event is very important because it is one of the "Big Four" fashion weeks around the world. The others are in New York, Paris, and London. Many famous designers use Milan Fashion Week to share their creative ideas and new collections with everyone. It helps decide what trends people will see in stores soon.

History and operations

Milan Fashion Week started in 1958. It is one of the four biggest fashion weeks in the world. The others are Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, and New York Fashion Week. The order of these events is New York, then London, then Milan, and finally Paris. Milan Fashion Week happens twice a year. It shows new clothes for both women and men.

The event is helped by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion. This group supports and organizes Italian fashion. It was created on June 11, 1958. Many important fashion designers and business owners helped start it. The biggest shows are for women's fashion, but there are also special events for men's fashion. In 2013, famous designers like Armani and Prada showed their new clothes. In 2015, Carlo Capasa became the leader of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion.

2020–2022: Milano Digital Fashion Weeks

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Milan Fashion Week happened only online from July 14 to July 17, 2020. In 2022, Gucci joined Milan Fashion Week for the first time. They used 68 pairs of twins to show their new designs.

Locations

Milan Fashion Week has more than 40 shows each season. The city becomes very busy for visitors. The shows take place in some of Milan's most beautiful and important buildings, like Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Serbelloni. These buildings are used as stages for the designers' new clothes.

Sustainability controversy

In 2014, Greenpeace asked brands to make safer clothes. They put up signs in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Chiara Campione from Greenpeace Italy asked brands, like Versace, to promise not to use harmful chemicals when making clothes.

Key revenues

In 2021, Milan Fashion Week helped the city earn a lot of money. About 30,000 people came to visit. This brought in €64 million. The money helped businesses, restaurants, shops, and places to stay. Each visitor spent around €1,902 on average.
