Monte de El Pardo

The Monte de El Pardo is a large forested area in Madrid, Spain. It covers about a quarter of the city and spans 15,289.12 hectares.

This forest has been a valued hunting ground since the mid-14th century, as noted in the writings of Alfonso XI. It is one of the best-preserved mediterranean forests in Europe and has been protected as a Special Protection Area since 1987. It is owned by Patrimonio Nacional.

The forest mainly consists of holm oak trees, along with other varieties such as cork oaks, Valencian oaks, junipers, ashes, Montpellier maples, kermes oaks, and willows.

The area also includes scrub plants like cistus, retama broom bushes, Phillyrea angustifolia, rosemary, and Spanish lavender. It is an important natural space for both wildlife and people.
