Mount Carleton

Mount Carleton, standing at 820 metres (2,690 ft), is the highest peak in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. It is located in Mount Carleton Provincial Park and is a key part of the Canadian section of the International Appalachian Trail. The mountain was named after Thomas Carleton, New Brunswick's first lieutenant governor, and is part of the Notre Dame Mountains chain.

Before airplanes were used to watch the land, there was a small building on top of Mount Carleton. It helped people spot wildfires in the remote northern part of the province by using signals.

Mount Carleton is a special kind of hill called a monadnock. This means it is made from strong igneous rocks. These rocks stayed standing after an ancient flat land surface was lifted up and carved away over millions of years by wind, water, and ice. The rocks here are about 400 million years old and came from ancient volcanic activity.
