After gaining independence from South Africa, they hosted Zimbabwe and lost 5–1. Their first win came on July 1, 1994, with a 1–0 victory away over Botswana in a friendly match.

Namibia has participated in the African Cup of Nations four times. In their first three appearances, they exited in the first round. In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, they reached the Round of 16 for the first time, where they lost 3–0 to Angola.
