Arena Milano

Arena Milano, also called Unipol Dome and PalaItalia Santa Giulia, is a big indoor place in Milan, Italy. It can hold up to 16,000 people, with seats for 12,000 and standing room for 4,000 more during concerts. This arena is the largest spot in Milan for sports and entertainment events inside.

2026 Winter Olympics

During the 2026 Winter Olympics, the arena was used for ice hockey games. It also hosted para ice hockey events for the 2026 Winter Paralympics, making it an important place for winter sports.

History

The Arena Milano is part of a big project to improve the Santa Giulia area in the south-east part of Milan. The idea for this arena started when Milan tried to host the 2026 Winter Olympics with Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Work began to clean the area where the arena would be built in early 2022. In 2025, the government gave extra money to help with costs during building. Even though it wasn’t finished, the arena hosted some important ice hockey games in January 2026.

Criticism

Arena Milano has had some concerns because it was used for big events before it was fully built. There were reports of construction work and some problems during games. In one game, a hole appeared in the ice, which made people worry about the arena.

International media, especially those linked to the National Hockey League, have asked if the arena meets all the needed standards and if it will be finished on time.

In January 2026, International Ice Hockey Federation president Luc Tardif said the stands would not be ready on time, meaning fewer people can attend games. But he promised the ice surface and player areas would be ready.

These issues are part of bigger worries about delays for the 2026 Winter Olympics, especially about finishing the service areas and outside work around the arena.
