Pecos League
The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is an independent professional baseball league based in Houston. It plays in smaller cities across desert mountain areas in California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas. These are places that don't have teams in Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball, and the Pecos League is not connected to those bigger leagues.
One special thing about the Pecos League is that its season is very short and packed with games. The schedule changes each year, but sometimes teams have played many games in a very short time. This makes every game exciting and fast-paced!
History
The Pecos League started with six teams in 2011 and grew to ten teams by 2014. It also has a short spring league for new players.
In 2014, a TV channel showed a show about life in the league. Two players from the league joined big league teams later: one played for the Texas Rangers in 2014, and another joined the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016.
Teams moved cities over the years. In 2016, some teams folded and others moved, including one to Bakersfield, California. New teams joined in places like Great Bend, Kansas and Tucson, Arizona.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, some teams played all their games in one place: Houston, Texas. The league kept changing with new teams joining and others leaving over the next few years.
