Shahdara Bagh

Shahdara Bagh (Punjabi: شاہدرہ باغ, romanized: Śāhdrā Bāġ; Urdu: شاہدره باغ; lit. 'King's Passage's Garden') is a historic area along the western bank of the Ravi River, across from the Walled City of Lahore, in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

This beautiful place has many important buildings from the time of the Mughal emperors.

Visitors to Shahdara Bagh can see the Tomb of Jahangir, a grand monument built for one of the great Mughal rulers. Nearby are other important tombs and buildings, such as the Akbari Sarai, Tomb of Asif Khan, Tomb of Nur Jahan, and the Baradari of Kamran Mirza. These structures show the rich history and amazing architecture of the Mughal period.

Today, Shahdara Bagh is a peaceful garden where people can walk and enjoy the beauty of old buildings and nature.

History

Shahdara means "the pathway of kings." Long ago, in the 15th century, Shahdara was the main gate into Lahore during the Mughal Empire. Today, it is home to many important Mughal buildings, such as the Akbari Sarai, the Tomb of Jahangir, and that of his brother-in-law Asif Khan. There is also a place called Kamran's Baradari there. Originally built right on the Ravi River, it is now an island because the river changed its course over time. The garden also holds the tomb of a Mughal princess named Dohita Un Nissa Begum, who lived from 1651 to 1697.

Transportation

Shahdara Bagh railway station helps people travel to Shahdara and nearby places. The Shahdara Metrobus Terminal Station is located on the north side of the river Ravi.
