Events
Shooting has been part of the Summer Olympic Games since 1896. Early competitions had unusual rules, but these later changed to use clay targets. The International Shooting Sport Federation was created in 1907 to help make the rules more uniform.
Shooting events have been held in many Olympics. When shooting returned in 1932, there were only two events, but the number grew over time. By the 2000–2004 games, there were seventeen events. Women began competing more in these events, with the first women-only events starting in Los Angeles in 1984. Since then, many women have won medals in shooting.
