Suleman Lalani
Suleman Lalani (born July 18, 1967) is an American politician and medical doctor. He represents district 76 of the Texas House of Representatives.
As a member of the Democratic Party, Lalani has made history as one of the first Muslims and South Asian lawmakers in the Texas legislature.
His background as both a doctor and a public servant helps him bring unique perspectives to his work. He focuses on the needs of his community and promotes important issues for all people in Texas.
Early life and education
Suleman Lalani was born in Pakistan. He studied at Sindh Medical College. In the 1990s, he moved to the United States and learned more at Baylor College of Medicine. He has worked as a doctor for almost 20 years, helping older adults. He has earned top certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Career
Suleman Lalani tried to join the Texas House of Representatives in the 26th district but was not elected. Later, he ran for the 76th district in Fort Bend County, which includes Sugar Land. He won and became one of the first Muslim and South Asian members of the Texas House of Representatives together with Salman Bhojani. He was re-elected again later.
In 2025, Lalani suggested new rules to help keep people safe at home and to stop certain adults from having guns.
