Tomb of Jesus

According to the gospel accounts, Jesus was buried in a tomb that belonged to Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy man who believed Jesus was the Messiah. Joseph offered his own sepulcher for the burial of Jesus. This showed his strong belief in Jesus' importance.

Christian tradition says that the tomb of Jesus is found in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This church is very special because many believe it is where Jesus was buried and later came back to life. It has been an important place for visitors and pilgrims for many years.

Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a church in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It has two very important places for Christians. One is where Jesus was crucified, called Calvary (or Golgotha). The other is where his empty tomb is believed to be. Christians believe Jesus was buried there and later resurrected.

In 2016, workers removed the marble covering on the stone where Jesus was thought to have been placed to clean and restore it.

The Garden Tomb is a rocky tomb in Jerusalem found in 1867. Some people thought it might be where Jesus was buried. An expert thinks the tomb is very old, from around 700 to 800 years before the common era.

Roza Bal is a shrine in Srinagar, India. Local people think a wise man named Yuzasaf is buried there. In 1899, a leader of a religious group said this might actually be where Jesus is buried, but many others disagree.

In a village called Shingō in Japan, there is a place called the Tomb of Jesus. Some people there believe Jesus did not die on the cross but went to Japan instead. They say he lived there and had a family.
