Tommy Moe

Thomas Sven Moe was born on February 17, 1970. He is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States.

Moe was known for his skill in fast events, especially downhill and super G.

During the 1994 Winter Olympics, he won a gold and a silver medal. This showed his great talent and speed on the slopes. His successes made him famous in the world of skiing.

Early years

Tommy Moe was born in Missoula, Montana. He learned to ski at the Big Mountain near Whitefish. As a teenager, he practiced at Alyeska near Anchorage in Alaska. He joined the U.S. Ski Team when he was 16 years old in 1986.

Racing career

Tommy Moe began racing when he was 17 years old. He competed in the 1989 World Championships in Vail, Colorado and finished 12th in the downhill race. He earned his first World Cup points in March with a 13th-place finish at Åre, Sweden.

Moe had a great performance at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. He became the first American male ski racer to win two medals in a single Winter Olympics. He won gold in the downhill and silver in the super-G at Kvitfjell. After the Olympics, he won his only World Cup race, a super-G at Whistler, Canada.

Moe’s best World Cup season was in , where he placed third in the super-G and eighth in both the downhill and overall standings. However, he injured his right knee at Kvitfjell. After recovering, he never returned to his previous top form. He made the U.S. Olympic team again for the Nagano Games in , finishing eighth in the super-G and twelfth in the downhill at Hakuba. Moe retired from competitive ski racing in June at the age of 28.

After his racing career, Tommy Moe was honored by being added to the National Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Michigan. He now helps promote skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, Wyoming. Moe also owns a lodge called Tordrillo Mountain Lodge in the Alaska Range and makes his home in Wilson, Wyoming.

Tommy Moe is married to Megan Gerety, who is also a skier. They got married in 2003 and have two daughters. They live in Wilson.
