The Wright-Martin Aircraft Corporation was a short but important airplane company. It started when two famous names in aviation joined together: the Wright Company and Glenn L. Martin. The Wright Company came from the Wright brothers, who were the first to fly an airplane. After Orville Wright sold his part of the company, he was no longer involved, but the name stayed the same.

Wright-Martin made several airplanes during its time. These planes were used for both military and civilian purposes, helping to grow the early airplane industry. Even though the company did not last long, the airplanes it made played a part in the history of flight.

The partnership between the Wright Company and Glenn L. Martin helped improve airplane technology. Their work helped create new flying machines that shaped the future of air travel and military aviation.

History

In September 1916, the Wright Company and the Glenn L. Martin Company joined together to make a new company. This new company kept fighting with other airplane makers over patents until 1917. Then the government helped them make a cross-licensing agreement.

The company made a version of the Hispano-Suiza 8 airplane engine. This engine was used in planes like the Vought VE-7 and Boeing NB-2. By 1918, the company had a factory in Long Island City, New York. Later, it changed its name to Wright Aeronautical to make airplane engines, including the Wright Whirlwind. Glenn Martin started his second company in 1917. This company grew to make airplanes, rockets, and spacecraft. It later merged into Lockheed Martin.
