A Mariña Central

A Mariña Central is a local region in the Province of Lugo in Galicia. As of 2019, it was home to 28,955 people. This area is part of the larger A Mariña de Lugo macro-region and has special meaning for the people who live there.

To the north and northeast, A Mariña Central touches the Bay of Biscay. It shares borders with A Mariña to the northwest, Terra Chá to the west and south, Meira to the southeast, and A Mariña Oriental to the east.

The land in A Mariña Central has three main types of shapes: flat coastal plains, valleys carved by rivers like the Masma and Ouro, and gentle rolling hills such as the Serra do Xistral. The coastline here is steep, with small bays and inlets spread among rivers and areas where rivers meet the sea, like in Foz.

Trees such as oaks and pines grow here, along with some areas planted with eucalyptus, and wide stretches of grassland.

Climate

The climate in A Mariña Central is oceanic. This means the temperatures don't change much between day and night or between seasons because of the nearby ocean. The weather stays mild all year, but it is often wet and foggy because of lots of rain. The winds are usually strongest along the coast.

A Mariña Central includes several towns. These towns are Alfoz, Burela, Foz, Lourenzá, Mondoñedo, and O Valadouro.
