Aaron Glenn

Aaron Devone Glenn, born on July 16, 1972, is an American professional football coach and a former player. He is currently the head coach for the New York Jets in the National Football League, or NFL. Before becoming a head coach, he held several important coaching roles. He was the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions from 2021 to 2024, the defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints from 2016 to 2020, and an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns from 2014 to 2015.

Glenn played football for 15 seasons in the NFL. During his playing career, he was a cornerback for several teams, including the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the New Orleans Saints. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies. He also has a connection with his younger brother, Jason Glenn, who played in the NFL from 2001 to 2006 with the Jets, Dolphins, and Vikings. The two brothers even played together during Jason’s first season in the league.

Early life

Aaron Glenn was born in Humble, Texas. He played youth football in the Humble Area Football League and went to Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas. At Nimitz, he was a four-year letterman for the football team. In his final year, he rushed for over 1,000 yards, caught the ball for over 200 yards, and made seven interceptions. He also played basketball and track.

Playing career

Aaron Glenn began his football journey in college. He first played for Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, where he earned honors for his performance. He then moved to Texas A&M University, where he continued to shine and was recognized as one of the best players in his conference.

Glenn was picked by the New York Jets in the 1994 NFL draft and played there for eight seasons. He set a team record with a 100-yard touchdown from an interception in 1996. He later played for the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New Orleans Saints over his 15-year career, making many important plays and earning spots in the Pro Bowl.

Executive career

Starting in 2012, Glenn worked as the general manager for the Houston Stallions in the Texas Lone Star Football League, which is an indoor football league with teams only from Texas.

Later in June 2012, he joined his old team, the New York Jets, as a scout to help choose new players.

Coaching career

On May 18, 2014, Glenn became an assistant defensive backs coach for the Cleveland Browns.

On January 13, 2016, he joined the New Orleans Saints as their secondary coach.

On January 23, 2021, Glenn was hired by the Detroit Lions as their defensive coordinator under head coach Dan Campbell. In 2023, he signed a new contract with the Lions. His defense did very well, allowing few rushing yards and few passing touchdowns.

On January 22, 2025, Glenn became the head coach of the New York Jets. The team struggled at first but won a few games later in the season. They finished last in their division with a 3–14 record. After the season, Glenn made changes to his coaching staff. On January 28, 2026, he hired Brian Duker, who was formerly with the Miami Dolphins, as his new defensive coordinator. A week later, he hired Frank Reich, a former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers, as his new offensive coordinator.

Aaron Glenn has been married to his college sweetheart, Devaney Glenn, since 1994. They have three children: two daughters and a son.
