Bear Lake (Alaska)

Bear Lake in Alaska is one of many lakes with the same name in the state. It is located near the town of Seward and Resurrection Bay, in the Kenai Peninsula Borough on the beautiful Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. You can reach the lake by driving down Bear Creek Road, which connects to the Seward Highway, and then taking Old Sawmill Road.

Since 1962, people have worked to help more salmon live in Bear Lake. Today, the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association takes care of these projects. They try to increase the number of sockeye and coho salmon by controlling other fish that might hurt them and by adding more of these salmon to the lake.

The lake gets most of its water from the melting Bear Lake Glacier, which flows into the lake through the upper part of Bear Creek. The rocks and layers at Bear Lake also give scientists important clues about what the world was like millions of years ago during the Miocene time.
