Blic is a Serbian web portal that shares news about politics, money matters, fun and showbiz stories, and what is happening right now. The first printed version of Blic came out in 1996. In 1998, they started an online version, and in 2022, they also began showing news on TV through Blic TV.
Blic is owned by Ringier Serbia. Ringier is a big company that works with news and media all around the world, and its main office is in Switzerland.
Ownership
The first issue of Blic, an independent news source in Serbia, was published on September 16, 1996, by Blic Press d.o.o.
The paper was first owned by two businessmen from Austria, but was later sold to a German company called Gruner + Jahr in 2000. Over the years, ownership changed several times. In 2010, Blic became part of a new joint venture between Ringier AG and Axel Springer SE. By 2021, Ringier bought out Axel Springer's shares, making Blic fully owned by the Swiss company Ringier again. In 2022, Blic TV started broadcasting.
Assets
Since it started, Blic has been part of many other publications. These include Alo!, a sister daily tabloid sold in 2017, Euro Blic, an issue for Republika Srpska that began in 1999, Blic Žena started in November 2004, Blic Puls, a celebrity gossip weekly magazine that began in March 2006, 24 sata, a free weekly newspaper that was once a daily from October 2006 but is no longer published, and Auto Bild, the Serbian version of a German magazine, launched in 2010.
The Blic news website shares content from the Blic daily newspaper and other publications under the Ringier umbrella in Serbia. Since the late 2000s, Blic has been one of the most visited websites in Serbia. Other online offerings from Ringier in Serbia include PulsOnline.rs and Zena.rs.
History
The newspaper Blic began in September 1996, started by a group of businessmen from Austria. It became the 10th daily newspaper in FR Yugoslavia at the time. The first issue came out on September 16, 1996.
In the beginning, Blic was a simple newspaper with short stories and lots of entertainment news. It started with 50,000 copies sold each day. The paper grew when it covered important events, like protests in 1996, even though it faced pressure from the government.
Later, Blic faced changes in leadership and ownership but kept growing. It also started an online portal in 1998 and began TV broadcasting in 2022. Today, Blic is part of Ringier Serbia, an international media company based in Switzerland.
Awards
In October 2016, a photojournalist named Vladimir Živojinović received an award called the Interfer for a series of photos titled “Migrants Idomeni.” In June 2022, Marica Jovanović was honored for writing the best article among young journalists. In February 2021, Jelena Medić was recognized for her series called "Mothers of Champions." Also in March 2021, Ivana Mastilović Jasnić received an award for her articles about dangerous adults who want to hurt children. Finally, in September 2022, Mitar Mitrović, another photojournalist, was awarded for a powerful photo named "Collision."
