Elections in Africa

Elections in Africa are important events where people choose their leaders. This page lists the most recent national elections that happened in African countries. Algeria

Algeria held a presidential election on September 7, 2024, and an election for the People's National Assembly on June 12, 2021. These elections helped the country choose its leaders.

Angola

Angola held important votes for its leaders and representatives on 24 August 2022. These votes included choosing the president and members of the National Assembly.

Benin

Ethiopia

The Gambia

The Gambia held its last presidential election on December 4, 2021, and the election for its National Assembly took place on April 9, 2022. These votes help decide who will lead the country and make laws.

Ghana

Ghana will hold its presidential and parliament elections on December 7, 2024. These are important events where people in Ghana choose their leaders.

Guinea

Guinea-Bissau

Mali

Mali held a presidential election on 29 July and 12 August 2018. The National Assembly election took place on 29 March and 19 April 2020.

Mauritania

Mauritania held a presidential election on 29 June 2024. The National Assembly elections took place on 13 and 27 May 2023. These are the most recent direct national elections for the country.

Mauritius

Mauritius had a big vote for its National Assembly on 10 November 2024. This was when people chose their leaders for the country's main government group.

Morocco

Morocco held elections for its Chamber of Representatives on September 8, 2021. This was a chance for people to choose their leaders in the country's government.

Mozambique

In Mozambique, important elections for both the President and the Assembly of the Republic happened on October 9, 2024. These elections let the people choose their leaders.

Namibia

In Namibia, important elections took place on November 27, 2019. Both the Presidential and National Assembly elections happened on the same day.

Niger

Niger held important votes for its leaders in late 2020 and early 2021. The country chose a president on December 27, 2020, and then again on February 21, 2021, to make sure everyone had a fair say. Nigeria

Seychelles

Elections in Seychelles will take place on two dates in 2025. The Presidential election and the National Assembly election will both happen from 25–27 September and again from 9–11 October 2025.

Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone held its most recent elections on June 24, 2023. Both the presidential and parliament elections took place on the same day.

Somalia

Somalia held elections for its Senate from July 29 to November 13, 2021. Then, elections for the House of the People took place from November 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. These elections helped choose the leaders for Somalia's government.

South Africa

South Africa held its most recent national election for the National Assembly on May 29, 2024. This election was important for choosing the leaders of the country.

South Sudan

South Sudan held its presidential election from April 11 to 15 in 2010. This was an important event for the country's government.

Sudan

In Sudan, important elections took place in April 2015. Both the president and the National Assembly were chosen during this time.
