Geodis Park

Geodis Park, originally called Nashville SC Stadium and later Nashville Fairgrounds Stadium during its building, is a special place for soccer fans. Located at the historic Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee, it can hold 30,109 people and is used just for soccer games. It is where the Nashville SC team, part of Major League Soccer, plays its home matches.

The stadium opened on May 1, 2022, with an exciting first game where Nashville SC played against the Philadelphia Union. This important event marked the beginning of many more soccer matches to come. Geodis Park was also chosen as one of the twelve places to host the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, showing how special and important it is for soccer around the world.

Construction

In December 2016, plans were made for a new soccer stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. The cost was expected to be $275 million, with businessman John Ingram helping to pay part of this amount.

In 2020, the deal was changed so that the team would pay for all the construction costs. This included lease payments, cash investments, and money from event attendees. The team also agreed to pay for improvements around the stadium area.

Demolition began in March 2020, and the stadium was completed and renamed Geodis Park in May 2022. The stadium is home to Nashville SC and was one of the venues for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Lawsuits

In November 2017, a group called Save Our Fairgrounds sued Metro Nashville, saying the building of the stadium might mess up the Tennessee State Fair, the Nashville Flea Market, and Fairgrounds Speedway racing. A judge dismissed this lawsuit in December 2017, but an appeals court brought it back up in July 2019 to check on the Fair Board’s responsibilities.

Then in January 2019, another lawsuit was started by the Tennessee State Fair Association, led by U.S. Representative John Rose, against Nashville’s government. They argued the stadium didn’t leave enough room for the state fair, which is protected by rules. This lawsuit was also dismissed quickly by the same judge. The group planned to go to the Tennessee Supreme Court, but in February 2019, they decided to settle and try to talk things out with the city council instead.

Design

The stadium was designed by Populous, a firm based in Kansas City that has designed venues for other soccer teams. It can seat 30,000 fans, making it the largest soccer-specific stadium in the United States or Canada. The stadium features six lounges, two dozen box suites, and a special entry gate for the supporters group on the north side.

Transportation

Geodis Park has 11 parking lots around it for Nashville SC games, and you need a pass to park there. Some lots are paved, and others have gravel or grass. There is also a place to pick up or drop off ride-hailing cars. The WeGo Public Transit system has two bus stops nearby but does not stay open late for matches.

Geodis Park will be one of six places outside of Los Angeles to hold Olympic soccer games during the 2028 Summer Olympics. Nine matches will take place there.
