Gymnastics at the Summer Olympics

Gymnastics events have been a part of every Summer Olympic Games since the modern Olympics began at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. For the first 32 years, only men could compete in these exciting and challenging events.

Things changed at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, when women were allowed to join in artistic gymnastics. Over time, more types of gymnastics were added. Rhythmic gymnastics came into the Olympics at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and trampoline made its debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

Today, gymnastics at the Olympics include several different styles that test athletes' strength, flexibility, balance, and skill. It remains one of the most popular and watched sports in the games.

Summary

Artistic gymnastics

Men's events

Some gymnastics events for men have changed over time. In the past, there were events like rope climbing and using special bars and vaults. These events were only held in certain years.
