Flag of Jordan

Jordan first joined the Olympic Games in 1980 and has sent athletes to every Summer Olympic Games since then. The country has never taken part in the Winter Olympic Games, except for one special case in 1992 when Mohamed Hadid competed for Jordan in speed skiing.

Jordan won its first Olympic medal at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Ahmad Abughaush won a gold medal in the Men's 68 kg taekwondo tournament. Four years later, at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Saleh El-Sharabaty won a silver medal in the 80 kg taekwondo category. Most recently, at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Zaid Kareem won another silver medal in the taekwondo Men's 68kg category.

Two Jordanian athletes, Samer Kamal and Ihsan Abu-Sheikha, won bronze medals in taekwondo at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. However, these medals were not counted as official because taekwondo was only a demonstration sport at that time.

The National Olympic Committee for Jordan was created in 1957 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1963. Today, the Jordan Olympic Committee is led by Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein.
