Kommersant

Kommersant (Russian: Коммерсантъ, IPA: , The Businessman or Commerce Man, often shortened to Ъ) is a daily newspaper from Russia that focuses on politics and business news. It is read by many important people across the country and is printed every day.

In July 2013, the newspaper had about 120,000 to 130,000 copies being read each day. This shows that many people trust it for information about important events and business matters.

Kommersant is one of the three main business newspapers in Russia. The other two are called Vedomosti and RBK Daily. These three papers are very popular for people who want to learn about politics and business in Russia.

History

The original Kommersant newspaper started in Moscow in 1909 but stopped when the government changed in 1917.

It started again in 1989 when people in Russia were allowed to share more ideas freely. The first new issue came out in January 1990. It was designed to be like newspapers from other countries that focus on business news.

Over time, Kommersant grew very popular with important business and political people. It began publishing every day in 1992. The newspaper’s name in Russian ends with a special letter that doesn’t say anything when spoken. This is shown in its logo.

In 2008, a news group called BBC News said Kommersant was one of Russia’s main newspapers for business people.
