List of cities in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a country in Central Asia with many cities and towns. The largest city is Kabul, which is also the capital. Over one million people live in Kabul, making it the only city in Afghanistan with such a big population.

As of September 2025, Afghanistan has about 36 million people living there. Many Afghans live in other countries too, such as Iran and Pakistan, or are part of the Afghan diaspora around the world. This means the total number of Afghans is more than 40 million.

Some of the other important cities in Afghanistan include Herat, Jalalabad, Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif, Kunduz, Lashkargah, Puli Khumri, Farah, Ghazni, Maymana, and Khost. These cities are important centers for trade, culture, and daily life for many people in Afghanistan.
