Reptiles are fascinating tetrapod animals that belong to the class Reptilia. They include many groups we see today such as turtles, crocodilians, snakes, amphisbaenians, lizards, and the tuatara, along with their extinct relatives. The scientific study of these animals, together with amphibians, is known as herpetology.

This list of reptiles organizes these incredible vertebrates by family and spans two subclasses. Here, the word "reptile" is used in its traditional meaning, which is paraphyletic, meaning it does not include birds. Although birds are scientifically considered reptiles in a more detailed classification called cladistics, they are not part of this list.
