Elizabeth Lands, known as Liz Lands, was an American soul singer born on February 11, 1939, and passed away on January 11, 2013. She was famous for her incredible voice, which was said to span five octaves—a very wide vocal range that made her stand out.
Liz Lands began her career with the famous Motown record company. Her powerful voice caught the attention of Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown. Gordy tried to help her become a big star in the R&B and pop music world by signing her to his own label, Gordy Records.
Although she didn't become a household name, Liz Lands left a lasting impression with her music. Her talent and unique voice continue to be remembered by music fans and historians today.
Life and career
Elizabeth Lands was born on February 11, 1939, in the Georgia Sea Islands. She grew up in New York City and later moved to Detroit. There, she became involved in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. While performing with Harry Belafonte at a benefit show, she was discovered by Berry Gordy, who signed her to his music labels. She released her first single in 1963.
In 1963, Lands released a song as a tribute to President John F. Kennedy after his assassination. She also performed at the funeral of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. After leaving Motown, she recorded music with her own label and later reappeared in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Lands passed away in January 2013.

Liz Lands released several songs and albums throughout her career. Some of her notable works include "Untamed!" in 1959, and singles like "May What He Lived For Live" / "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" in 1963. She also released tracks such as "Midnight Johnny" / "Keep Me" in 1964 and "Starting All Over Again" in 1990.
