Moyen-Chari (region)

Moyen-Chari (Arabic: شاري الأوسط) is one of the 23 regions of Chad, located in the south of the country. Its capital is Sarh. This area is part of Chad's rich southern region, which is known for its unique culture and natural beauty. The region was once larger, as the old prefecture of Moyen-Chari also included what is now the Mandoul Region. Today, Moyen-Chari remains an important part of Chad, helping to connect the country's southern areas with the rest of the nation.

Geography

The Moyen-Chari region is in the southern part of Chad. It shares borders with Guéra Region to the north, Salamat Region to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, and Mandoul Region, Tandjilé Region, and Chari-Baguirmi to the west. The landscape is mostly flat savannah, and part of it is protected within Manda National Park. In the north-east, you can find Lake Iro, which scientists think may have been formed by an ancient space impact.

The main city and capital of Moyen-Chari is Sarh, the third largest city in Chad. Other important towns include Alako, Balimba, Baltoubaye, Bohobé, Boum Kebbir, Danamadji, Dindjebo, Djéké Djéké, Korbol, Koumogo, Kounou, Kyabé, Maro, Moussa Foyo, Ngondeye, Roro, and Singako.

Demographics

In 2009, the region had a population of 588,008 people. The main groups of people there speak different languages, including Chadian Arabic, Bagirmi, Boor, Bua, Gula Iro, Zan Gula, Kaba Deme, Kaba Náà, Kulfa, Laal, Lutos, Ndam, Niellim, Sara, Tumak, and Tunia.

Economy

The economy of Moyen-Chari relies on farming for basic needs, raising animals, growing cotton, and producing sugarcane. These activities help the people of the region take care of their daily needs and support their livelihoods.
