Natalia Kuchinskaya

Natalia Alexandrovna Kuchinskaya, also known as Natasha Kuchinskaya, was born on 8 March 1949. She is a retired Russian Olympic gymnast who achieved great success in her sport.

Gymnastics career

Natalia Kuchinskaya was born on March 8, 1949, in Leningrad. She started gymnastics in kindergarten and trained with famous coaches, including Larisa Latynina.

By 1965, at just 16 years old, Natalia became the USSR national champion. She won many gold medals at the 1966 World Championships in events like the balance beam, uneven bars, and floor exercise. In 1968, she competed in the Olympics where she won several medals, including a team gold and gold on the balance beam. After the Olympics, Natalia stopped competing, feeling she had lost her love for the sport.

Later life

After retiring from gymnastics, Natalia Kuchinskaya coached in the USSR, Japan, and the United States. She married an optician named Alexander Kotliar in 1980 and now lives and coaches in the USA, where she runs her own gymnastics club in Illinois. In 1999, she shared her experiences in Soviet gymnastics on a PBS documentary called The Red Files. In 2006, she was honored by being added to the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
