The Technological University of Panama, known in Spanish as Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá (UTP), is the second largest university in Panama. It has six schools and seven regional campuses spread across the country. The main campus, covering 60 hectares or about 150 acres, is located in Panama City, the capital of Panama. This university plays an important role in providing education and opportunities for students across Panama.

History

The Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá (UTP) is an important public university in Panama. It started as the Engineering School of the University of Panama and became UTP in 1981.

In 1984, UTP was officially organized, and it has grown a lot since then. It began with just six bachelor's degrees and 15 technical careers, but now it offers many more programs, including doctorates, master's degrees, and engineering and technology courses. The number of students has also grown from about 5,700 in 1981 to around 18,000 in 2011. UTP has many professors and staff to support its students.

Organization

The Technological University of Panama has a clear structure to help it run smoothly. The main leader is the President or Rector, supported by three Vice-Rectors who handle academic, administrative, and research matters. There is also a Registrar's Office and a team for university planning. The university has several government groups, including the General University Council, the Academic Council, the Research Council, and the Administrative Council, which help guide the school's decisions.

The Technological University of Panama has six schools. These schools are Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, and Science and Technology.

Branches

The Technological University of Panama has campuses in several places. In Panama City, there are three main locations: the Metropolitan Campus “Dr. Víctor Levi Sasso”, Howard, and Tocumen. There are also regional centers in Azuero, Bocas del Toro, Cocle, Colon, Chiriqui, Western Panama, and Veraguas.

The Technological University of Panama has several special places for studying and discovering new things. These include a center for engineering experiments, a place for managing projects, a center for farming and growing food, and a spot for learning about water and how to use it wisely. The Technological University of Panama has several publications for its students and staff. These include newsletters like Radar and UTP in motion, as well as magazines such as El Tecnológico, PRISMA Tecnológico, I+D Tecnológico, and Tecnología Hoy. There is also a publication called Boletín Dirección de Relaciones Internacionales for international affairs.

Cultural affairs

The Technological University of Panama hosts many cultural events and awards. These include launches for books and magazines, a special cultural magazine called MAGA, and a week celebrating literature. The university also gives out several important prizes, such as the "Rogelio Sinán" Central American Prize, the "José María Sánchez" Short Story National Prize, the MAGA Short Story Prize, and the “Pablo Neruda” National Poetry Prize. Students can also earn a Creative Writing Diploma.
