Traun is a town in Austria, located close to the city of Linz. It sits along the north bank of the river Traun, which gives the town its name. The name "Traun" comes from an old Celtic word for river. Traun is the fifth largest town in the area known as Upper Austria and is part of the Linz-Land district.

History

The history of Traun is rich and spans many centuries. Early signs of people living in the area go back to ancient times, with the first settlements appearing around the time a Roman road passed through. In the 6th century, a group known as the Bavarii settled here. The name "Traun" comes from an old word for river, first seen in documents around the year 790.

Over the years, Traun grew from a small place into a larger town. Important buildings such as schools, churches, and a castle were built. In the 1800s, new industries began, including textile and paper factories. Traun became officially recognized as a city in 1973. Since then, many modern facilities like swimming pools, sports arenas, and new schools have opened, helping Traun develop into the town it is today.
