The First Winter Olympics

The 1928 Winter Olympics were a special sports event held in St. Moritz, Switzerland, from February 11 to 19, 1928. This was the first time there was a Winter Olympics all by itself, not mixed with the Summer Olympics.

Fun Winter Sports

People from 25 countries came to compete in fun winter sports like ice skating, speed skating, bobsleigh, and Nordic skiing. There were even two special sports called military patrol and skijoring.

Youngest Winner Ever

One of the most exciting stories was about Sonja Henie from Norway. She was only 15 years old when she won the ladies' figure skating competition. She became the youngest Olympic champion ever!

Many Countries Joined

Athletes from many places around the world joined the games. Some countries, like Argentina, Germany, and Japan, were joining for the very first time. It was a wonderful way for friends from different lands to meet and compete together.

Weather Challenges

The organizers had some tricky weather during the games. The opening ceremony happened during a big snowstorm, and warm weather caused problems for some sports. Even though it was a bit difficult, everyone enjoyed the games very much. A silent movie called The White Stadium was made to show what happened during the Olympics.
